Skullcap has smooth, square, upright stems. It can reach a height of 30 to 120 cm. The stems are leafy and branched, with elongated, opposite, toothed leaves. Each leaf is 1 to 3 inches (2.5 to 7.5 cm) long, with smaller leaves at the tip of the stem. The 2-lobed, helmet-shaped flowers are blue-violet to whitish. Each flower is about 2.5 cm long and grows in short spike-like clusters or individually in the upper leaf axils. The flowers are tubular and the upper hood-shaped lip gives it the name skullcap. Each flower produces 4 nut-like fruits.

🛑 Skullcap should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Uses the plant in small doses. Large doses can be harmful or cause liver damage.

Skullcap calms your nerves when everything threatens to collapse on you, when too much work has accumulated, when your husband, children, relatives or colleagues in the office keep coming with new demands and you can no longer free yourself from nervousness and hecticness. Skullcap in incense mixtures is said to protect against evil influences, especially when others bring discord and resentment into the house.
