Mate tree (Ilex paraguariensis)

Ingredients:

lots of caffeine, lots of theobromine (like in cocoa), fatty oil, essential oil, tannins, flavonoids, minerals, vitamin C


Other:

☕ Tea: Pour 1/2 liter of warm water over 2 tablespoons of crushed leaves. After about 5 minutes the tea enjoyment is ready. You season with honey, milk, alcohol or better with fruit juices. In his home country, people usually don't strain mate at all, but rather leave the brew in the drinking vessel, which they keep refilling with fresh water. The water never has to boil with mate; when it is slightly warmed, it extracts the active ingredients (which have already been broken down by the previous treatment). Up to 1 1/2 liters per day are possible.


In South America, mate is a national drink. In Argentina, for example, people consume around 10 times more mate than coffee.


🛑If you are not used to the tea, high doses can cause side effects such as insomnia. Furthermore, it is not suitable for children.


The mate leaves from the mate tree can be smoked in a pipe or rolled into a cigarette.
