Miscellaneous:

Duckweed is a small floating plant that floats on or just below the surface of a still or slow-moving body of water. Each plant is actually just a small, flat, floating, modified stem that looks like a leaf and is 1/2 inch in diameter, with a single root hair protruding downward from each floating frond. They usually grow in large freshwater colonies. The entire plant is less than 1/2 inch wide from root tip to tip of floating frond. Duckweed does produce flowers, but reproduction occurs primarily through asexual budding at the base of the frond. Tiny flowers occasionally appear in groups of three in summer.

🛑 Duckweed contains high levels of calcium oxalate, which can contribute to the formation of kidney stones.

I remember duckweed from my childhood, when ducks and geese swam in it and ate the plants. It also serves as a food source for fish.

The protein of the duckweed is comparable to that of soybeans in terms of its amino acid composition and its high trace element content. That is why the species is also recommended as a wild vegetable for humans. Because the plant stores minerals effectively, its radium content, for example, can be 100 to 600 times higher than in the water that surrounds it. If, for example, ducks feed predominantly on these duckweeds, the radium concentration in their meat can also be increased tenfold and pose a potential danger to people who eat such meat. (Wikipedia)

If you want to eat duckweed, you should take it from a clean body of water or, better yet, grow it at home.
