Gentian schnapps

Ingredients:

1 kg sugar

approx. 1/2 to 1 liter of water

4 liters of alcohol

8 g cream of tartar

20 g gentian root

10 g elecampane root

25 g star anise

8 g centaury

100 g orange peel

large earthenware pot or similar

Ladle

fine sieve

Pot

Preparation:

Cut gentian root and elecampane root into small pieces and place in a clean earthenware pot or bucket. Add the remaining ingredients, star anise, centaury, orange peel and cream of tartar and pour over the alcohol. Now the whole thing has to be left covered for 3 weeks. Stir occasionally.

After 3 weeks it is strained through a fine sieve. A ladle is a good idea to help. Now the sugar is dissolved in a pot of water. Put the sugar in a pot and add the water step by step. Then bring to the boil and then mix the sugar water well with the strained alcohol. Now it can be bottled and labeled with the name (gentian schnapps) and date.

The filled bottles should now rest for at least 3 weeks.
