In this form of external use of drugs, the physical effect (heat, massage) is supposed to be supplemented by the effects of certain drugs. Various methods are possible for this:
Wraps (wraps, pads) You soak a thick linen cloth with the aqueous extract of the drug (tea) and place it - folded several times - on the area to be treated. To avoid loss of active ingredients and heat, cover with a woolen cloth or foil.
Packs are intended to relieve pain from colic and rheumatism, but also from sprains, bruises and swelling. Hot poultices (cataplasms): They are made from boiled, usually ground, drugs (e.g. linseed, fenugreek seeds, comfrey root) boiled with a small amount of water to form a paste. This is applied approximately as thick as a finger at a temperature of 50-60°C. A foil and a warm-keeping cloth are placed on top.
Herb pillow: Fill a linen or gauze bag with herbs, heat it in a water bath or dry in the oven and place it as hot as possible.
